Closet DnD geeks. I just can't imagine it. A coworker of mine came to us from Scotland, and all over europe really. He tells the tale that DnD is played there, and it might have sounded interesting to a young lad growing up over in that area, but to participate you had to endure horrifying rituals of trust-building in order to be invited to the gaming sessions. Nothing closet about us, I told him to join us.
Unsurprisingly, after inviting him, and doing all we could to encourage him to play (possibly too much), he backed out. "Not enough time" he said. LIke reading 10 pages to pick a race/class combo would kill you.
Ohwell. We still have 7 people! That's the biggest group I've ever heard of. Two tanks, a cleric, rogue, druid, dunno what the dm will play...prolly a finger wiggler...and of course a 7' tall (RL) guy playing a halfling bard.
We did house rules on stat rolls...4d6 discard the lowest...and I still rolled a 6 and an 8. Blast. Threw the 6 in INT. DM is going to make me roleplay it, and I don't object, it should make things fun. It's nice to have an excuse to intentionally slaughter someone's favorite fantasy name.
6 int, 14 WIS...Forrest Gump as a Dwarven Paladin. Really. It's going to be interesting. Been writing his background to get into the character, and I'm already cracking up.
It's going to be a challenge coming up with pithy sayings a dumb high-wis type would spout. Maybe I should buy a box of fortune cookies.
