15 years from now I'll be as old as my father was when he died.

He didn't have a heart attack from three-martini steak lunches.

He died of lung cancer. He died from dismantling an asbestos filled smokestack, or maybe the toxic waste dump site he worked on "cleaning up" with his brother, or growing up near that same toxic waste site, a place where the chemical company has now had to replace the entire water system because it was contaminated with the toluene and benzene and other crap they were putting right in the god damned ground water, or maybe (and most likely) a two pack a day non-filter Camel habit he'd had since he was sixteen.

And I see my brother, working on the road almost every day on my drive home. He's placing orange cones, or working with the heavy equipment that digs and fills and paves, but most of the time, he's got a cigarette behind his ear.

And I think about his baby at home with her momma and I just wonder how it's all gonna come out in the end.
