After 16 months of scheming and dreaming, I made my reservation for my triumphant return to the Netherlands.
I'll leave here on April 16th, and spend a night in Houston (I chose that over waking up at 4am and waiting in the Houston Airport for 7 hours), then proceed to Schipol on the 17th arriving 7:30am on the 18th. I'll just have carry-on, so I expect to make it into Amsterdam by about 9 (the trip through the airport and the train won't take long, but we may have to taxi 10 km from the runway to the terminal, (no shit). Maybe my hotel will let me scam a free breakfast even though I can't check in until 1, and I know they'll hold my bag while I go and rent a bike, buy a pipe, have my first smoke and take a steam bath at Sauna Deco (check out the pictures, the place will blow your mind).
Koninginnesdag, Queensday, April 30, has a reputation for being countrywide madness. That goes double for Amsterdam, or so I hear. Therefore, I'll stay in Haarlem for most of my trip and have the option to retreat if the energy proves too heavy for my delicate constitution. I live alone on 100 acres just south of the middle of nowhere, remember.
On May 6th, I'll have to get up early and hit the road. Fortunately, the bus to the airport stops about a block from my hotel.
