We watched the flower grow
on its own
then pretended it was ours
didn't know the petals would fall
one by one
so slow to watch
so fast to remember
the tide of time flowed
relentless
we decided to buy more
but the batteries weren't included
I'm alone on the highest branch
the branch we always perched on
forever musing
thinking we were above it all
as high as we could go
not realizing we could fly
the tree of life is dripping with blood-stained dew
don't expect me to flap my arms
and utter a coo
but it's not that bad.


Got the keys
got the keys to the kingdom
like car keys
jingle jingle
but man I didn't want them
I drove down the highway of heaven
on and on
stopped at all the angel stores
didn't know there were so many
why is there so many
ate their apple pies
ate them whole, cockroaches and all
they dragged their feet at the register
took their sweet time
wasted my wise
smiles turned upside down
these angeles were devils
the highway hell
and by the time I got to the big store
my pockets were hallow empty
and it was closed
thats why I didn't want the keys in the first place
sucks to see it coming
and know it can't be stopped
but it's not that bad.
