Everyone look around. Remember where you are. Now I want you to have an epiphany. Right now. Do it. There yet? Well let me help.
Think about the times we are currently living in. These are times you really do hear about in history text books. Our children will hear about hurricane Katrina and this government's, this administration's inability to effectively protect this country's people. How FEMA was slashed so completely that they couldn't even handle charity for major corporations to help in the relief efforts. They have turned away Amtrak's trains, Walmart's water and food, and emegency supplies of oil. All they can do is set up photo opps for Bush. Ask Mary Landrieu, she'll remind you. If you were ordered, could you set up a fake aid station for Bush to get his picture taken in front of then tear it down the next day? Could you be that cynical?
Think about the conditions in the Super Dome shelter. Where people were starving to death and looting just to survive. Bill O'Riley said that, essentially, if these were white people they wouldn't loot, but these were black people. Keep in mind that if these were white people, they would have been out of there by now, or never shoved there in the first place. Think about the overflowing toilets, the mothers running out of formula for their babies, and about the rapes that have been reported. Think about not knowing if your family or friends are alive, being stuck among thousands of desperate survivors. Think about toxic standing water and disease. Now think about your home, no, your home town lying under that. Think about being taken to Texas or Massechusets, or Delaware, or South Carolina, or anywhere else with no money, no supplies, and nobody to turn to. Think about how nothing will ever compare to this.
Recall that even now, we are still in a war in Iraq. A debacle which drains this country of resources and credibility, both abroad and at home. Where soldiers and civilians die everyday b/c of seemingly random bombings. Think about those soldiers who are from New Orleans, or those cities in Mississippi, or Alabama who were most affected.
Keep in mind that America is losing its preimmenance in the scientific global comunity because of far right fundamentalist Christians who oppose stem cell research, modern schools of thought and learning, and compose at least 51% of our nation. Keep in mind that companies like GM already claim to have cars that can run on hydrgen cells and whose only by product is water. But we don't see them on the roads because no one's found away to make them profitable enough yet.
Remember our president is so religious that he even suggests making condoms available only by perscription. We are in a place and time where Pat Robertson can publicly ask God to remove a supreme court justice by any means neccesary without any true public back lash or anger. A place where John Roberts can be groomed for chief justice before he is even appointed simply becasue he shares the same relgious beliefs as the president.
Recall Karl Rove? Yeah, he was going to get his for releasing the identity of an active CIA agent to multiple reporters like Robert Novak. Well, he never really was going to get his, was he? Recall the 2000 election? Where Kathrine Harris was both in charge of overseeing the Florida election and in charge of Bush's campaign. She hired Database Technologies to make a sweep of felons names with a search criteria so wide that it effectively wiped most black voters in many counties across the state.
Does any one recall Enron?! Does any one recall Donald Rumsfeldt saying you go to war with the army you got, no the one you want, even if it means only a few soldiers have the protection and supplies they need to survive? How about Guantanamo Bay?! How about Halliburton's no bid contracts?! Dick Cheney resigned in 2000 as acting Halliburton VP to run as the VP for the USA, and he got a 1 million dollar pension for it!
OK, anything now? While I was spouting all these things off what did you think about? Did you pay attention or did you let your mind wander? Maybe amongst all my negative you thought of something positive. Maybe you really did come to an epiphany about our lives and times in America, thinking about your role in society, your life, what your going to do with yourself. Maybe instead you let your mind wander to the next time you'll get wasted, or some fantasy about someone you want to fuck. It's possible that you didn't even read this, this country isn't known for it's attention spans or literacy rates.
You know what I think about? I think it's time we had ourselves a cultural revolution. And it's coming sooner than you'd think. That's my epiphany. What's yours?

but if you really want to get into it, then fine. cause it has nothing to do with being long winded or petty. it's those exact things that prevent revolutions from happening. you want a revolution? start one. but putting yourself up on a soap box and telling everyone how wrong they are and how right you are will get you nowhere.
and trying to force people to think won't get you anywhere either. people will only think if they want to. or if you trick them into it. but telling them to have an ephiphany at gunpoint will produce no results.
you want change? define what you want. map it out. get a plan. put it in action. or figure out how you will when you require the manpower/resources. i defined how i wanted to change the world; i didn't just bitch about it. a real revolutionary develops solutions to the problems they pose. if all you're doing is speaking, you're just doing it to hear your own voice.
