"Music, music... I hear music..."
I've had some scant moments to enjoy Rush's latest release "Rush Replay X3", a 3 DVD re-release of their "Exit Stage Left", "Grace Under Pressure" and "Show of Hands" concert videos as well as an audio version of that great "Grace Under Pressure" tour (live from the ol' Maple Leaf Gardens in Toronto to be exact!). Now, these things only make a shmuck like me happy so I beg the indulgence. It's been sort of reflective time watching these shows. What jumps out at you is how they literally grew musically. Neil is SPEEDING through "YYZ" on "Grace Under Pressure" and it mirrors my own growth with my former bandmates when we'd race through "Testaments" or "Look the Other Way". I was supposed to be a member of a working/touring band that would take the place of Rush when those "old" guys called it a career. Life is a gagreel... or a kick in the nuts. I can imagine them looking at that footage now and saying, "Man... that is WAY too fast!"... just like we did when we'd tape a show. So, watching those concerts again brought back memories of the time when we were all trying to do the same thing. Kind of cool and bittersweet.
My drums sound great with the bottom heads at a high tuning. This shouldn't be, but it is.
Some of my favourite bands and/or music is popping up on "oldies" stations.
Happy Father's Day, Gentleman (and single Moms!)
All roads either lead to the City or to Limelight. They always will.
