So I really like to learn new things and for the past few years I have been heavily into watching documentaries on all sorts of subjects. So I thought I would share some documentaries with you that I really feel have opened my eyes to so much to things I was completely blind to. Every one of these have changed my way of thinking in one way or another, and it just adds something new to my deck of knowledge.
The theme of these docs is control by complacency. Call me a weirdo if you must but I am totally sure the government is trying to sell us all to the highest bidder. Most of these ones touch on the subject more than a little. I'm gonna talk about one or two at a time so if anyone who has seen them wants to discuss we can ;)
I highly recommend every one of these one this list! (all on netflix)
Hydrofracking
1. Gasland and Gasland II~ For those of you who have not heard of Hydro-fracturing yet, It is a process in which a gas company drills a long shaft down into a shale formation underground and then pressure shoots water into it in order to fracture the shale. When they fracture it natural gas can pass through the cracks easier and the oil company can pump it out. When that happens it pollutes the water table and release chemicals into the air that cause dangerous side effects. In these docs the filmmaker travels around the country to meet with people who have been forced to live close to these pump stations and how it has effected them. A few different individuals light their water from their tap on fire and far more people have stories of sickness and lost that really break your heart. The worst part of the whole story is the government's reaction to all of the evidence coming out of these afflicted dying towns. The EPA itself participated in covering up the reality of the circumstances to the media. It was horrifying to see how this whole country is a patchwork quilt covered in these drilling sites.
2. Wiebo's War~ This one also deals with Hyrdo-Fracturing but on more of an individual level. It is about Wiebo Ludwig, an accused Eco terrorist who moved out to the country to live a more simple life with his family. When a pump was installed in their neighborhood the family started to suffer greatly. They had huge loss of crop and livestock and the women in the family experienced multiple miscarriages. So Wiebo may or may not have blown some drilling sites up :) It's a very sad tale for the most part because in reality individuals are powerless to the might of big business. Although its kinda gratifying to know that a few of those site were completely fucked up, it isn't even a drop in the bucket for how many sites there are, and how many are in the works.
If we cant cut the amount of energy we use from natural gas then we will destroy the whole world around us just for profit. The only way you can really help is to cut your consumption and conserve energy. Although petitions help too... my state currently has a moratorium in effect stopping Fracking temporarily. Unfortunately we don't have much of the world left to leave to our children :(
*my first attempt at a real blog. I'm not the greatest writer..sorry
