Now that the days are getting longer, Maeve (my 9 year old cat) is in her confused period where she thinks that she gets fed near sunrise. This happens every year - long nights mean longer sleep for me, short nights mean that she tries to get fed at progressively earlier times.
This morning she bit me awake (she normally tries meowing in my face first, then she licks me, and if those fail, she starts biting me for attention!) at 6AM for food. She gets fed around 7:30. I brushed her off the bed and went back to sleep. She then bit me awake 10 minutes later.
This time I (figuratively) kicked her off the bed, then opened a dresser drawer and started pelting her with clean socks. After one good hit, she bolted from the bedroom.
When Janey left for school, she made just enough noise to wake me. Maeve was cuddled up, but alert, just a few inches from my face. Apparently she had been there watching me for god knows how long (at most, one hour 40 minutes). I fed her and went back to sleep.
The bedroom is still covered with socks.
I wish I was so easily trained. I wish that I could catch myself eating poorly or drinking too much, and then pelt myself with clean socks until I learned my lesson.
With free will come great responsibility.

onio:
already told you my ability to chuck socks close to shrieking birds without lifting my head from the pillow.
