My new obsession is food porn. Likely due to the barrage of cooking competition shows, and unfortunate and undeniable trendiness in cuisine, I can't help but absolutely love food porn (and cooking). Tastespotting has to be the best site for mouth watering, lustful food imagery. It's part of the NotCot family of blogs which in themselves are all amazingly beautiful. But there's nothing like a beautifully photographed dish to make me want to cook. More and more I regret not going through with Culinary school back in 2000, not that going to school for Design was a bad move. I see all the Culinary students in the mornings on the train, heading to the Hollywood Culinary school, but more importantly, the checked pant wearing students going to Le Cordon Bleu in Pasadena. I want them to see my Elements of Cooking book and start conversing about the merits of Veal stock over any other. Unfortunately at a cost of $50,000 for a year's education, Le Cordon Bleu is a little out of the question. On the plus side, The Culinary Institute of America has a substantial amount of books available. And of course, I added them all to my Wishlist. Thanks very much to Swedrock who has helped out in the cooking department on a couple of occasions.
The other thing I've recently become obsessed with is Butter. It's probably a really bad thing to be obsessed with. Alas! After spending a couple hours at Bouchon in NYC, I fell in love with proper butter and have sought out the best possible kinds. I've just finished off a package of Strauss Creamery butter, which was truly glorious. I'm onto Plugra now, and today I am order a butters of the world assortment that comes with Danish Lurpak, Celle sur Belles AND Vermont sea salt butter. Fuck yeah!
Okay, enough of that! Activision and Blizzard merged today to form Activision Blizzard! That will have to be the most profitable video game company around now. See ya later, EA! It seemingly came out of nowhere. That's some pretty big news. I really need to start playing CoD4. I've been focusing on Assassin's Creed though, because I'd really like to finish it. It's a lot of fun. Kind of repetitive, and the town's folk get really annoying after a while. I think I should be able to kill those crazy people that scream and push you without triggering the killing innocents thing. I also wish there were a bit more tactics needed for the assassinations. It reminds me a lot of Crackdown in that everything is just really easy and doesn't really require planning. You can just charge in and wreak havoc.
I'm also playing Rock Band which is so fucking superior to Guitar Hero 3. The customization options are hilarious. I love the whole creation process. My main complaint though, as well as everyone else I'm sure, is the repetitiveness of the playlists in every city. I'm so over playing the same songs over and over again. Except Bon Jovi, which I sadly woke up with in my head. I'm the drum player in the band. It's been funny to have people come over and assume the drums were going to be easy, and then all of them fail horribly and all call out "I'm hitting it!". This is my character, from the band Sans Pants:
And for more randomness.. here are some things I miss.
I miss Canada and snow!
I miss Dr Who! Hurry up Christmas Special!
I miss indoor tanning and weird tan lines.
And lastly, I miss shooting real guns.

dood i'm the drummer too!! everyone seems to just give up on them so i picked them up and it's getting easier and easier. that game is sooo much fun. i heard from someone i work with that he read somewhere that they could theoretically introduce other instruments, down the line. some good ideas were thrown around but the best was a saxophone. imagine the songs that could be played! awesome.
