Hello, people. What is new with you? Can you believe we're nearing the end of September? Where did 2007 go? I'm approaching my one year anniversary here on SG, and it's been a lot of fun!
I appeared in Merrick, NY (on Long Island) two weeks ago, doing live caricatures and selling art prints at the annual Autumn Fest there... I experienced a few hiccups getting my table and chairs delivered to set up my stuff, but after this rocky start I had a really good weekend. The worst aspect was the wind coming off the ocean which whipped down the street and knocked over the sign I have been using for the last 11 months... It got damaged and led me to conclude that it's time to design a new sign (which I assemble from samples of my art and then take to Kinko's to have produced, so it's not that big of a deal). Another vendor at the show - a artist who was selling framed paintings of plants and still life - suffered the indignity of having his pictures being periodically sent over by the wind with a resounding crash... The wind was a problem for a lot of us, but we got through it okay. Even though the vendors were there competing with each other for the public's money, we all helped each other out and shared in mutual respect and camaraderie... This has not always been my experience at some similar events I have done. So that helped make the weekend a memorable and positive experience. It was definitely worth doing and I will be down in NY again next year for the 2008 festival.
I have two similar events coming up before the end of the year: one in my hometown which is for a local charity, and one in Springfield Massachusetts in November, which I am doing to line my own filthy pockets! BWAH-HA-HA!
Of course, in and amongst all of this activity, there is still time for the joy of drawing SG fan art. Below is the latest example; I hope you enjoy it!
