As much as I knock Pittsburgh, I'll say one excellent thing about it - no major natural disasters. Unbelievable.

I got stopped at a sobriety checkpoint tonight on my way home from work, about 1:00am. I just think those are an incredible waste of time. Instead of spreading the police all around the area, keeping alert for drunk drivers everywhere, you smoosh 15 of them together on one road. Which, of course, holds up traffic forever.

I eventually get to the front of the line and the officer asks, "Where are you coming from tonight?" I responded, "I'm coming home from work."
"You do any drinking at work?" he asks incredulously, as if it's unheard of for someone to work the night shift, outside of him.
"No, I was too busy working," I said a bit more agitated than I meant to, and immediately wished I hadn't. Nothing happened, other than a brusque "Go on your way," but it was still stupid. That would have been a real good excuse for him to actually keep me there, do all the sobriety exercises, waste both our time, etc.

It just really irks me that everyone gets treated like the town tosspot when going through those things. It probably didn't help any that I was playing "Pump It Up" louder than I should have.

But today was good cos I found out I'm getting a raise on Monday. Probably not a terribly substantial one, but anything helps! So to ham it up,
