Lumos!
So let's run down things in chronological order, shall we?
Harry Potter & the Goblet of Fire = much spectacularness. So, so, amazing. Mike Newell very ably stepped into Alfonso Cuarn's large shoes. He's not as inspired a visual director, but he's proved himself quite adept at managing many plotlines in previous films (even lighter fare like Four Weddings and a Funeral), which is essential to GoF. The acting has all improved tenfold, particularly among the three leads. Rupert Grint is Ron; he totally owns the role. Radcliffe has some big moments to sell, which he does. Ralph Fiennes - well, what can you say about him, really? It's like Amon Goethe as an evil drama professor. And Brendan Gleeson is top-notch, as per usual. And dragons. Dude, dragons.
Next, Thanksgiving was wonderful. Well, anything would have been a step up from last year - working on Thanksgiving day and only looking forward to coming back to an empty apartment without heat or hot water for all of that week. So, yeah. A nice four-day weekend, actually getting to see your family and pig out - I'll take that.
Okay. Friday was the best day I've spent in quite some time. I met a gal. And an incredible gal she is. I spent the early part of the day doing the whole insane shopping thing ($400 coats for $130? Yes, please!) and then I met up with her in the afternoon to catch Harry Potter, as she's a fellow HP nerd. I wasn't quite sure what to expect, but I certainly didn't have any illusions that I was going to meet someone so incredibly in tune with me. Well, I was wrong. Very cute, so easy to converse with (something very difficult for me), vastly intelligent and she knows how to have fun. We went to the Harp & Fiddle (I can't believe this was my first time there) and had a smashing time. The band, Red Hand Paddy, was playing bang-up versions of Irish folk songs and such, and the place had a wonderful atmosphere. Folks banging on tables with glasses and singing along, and we were right alongside 'em. I felt like a hobbit in The Green Dragon. Okay, more nerdiness, heh. Anyhow, we definitely connected, etc. Pretty much spent the whole weekend with her and now I find myself exactly where I said I wasn't going to let myself be for a long time. Oddly enough, though, I don't really care. I'm just gonna run with it. I think she feels the same. So I can't wait for this weekend, when we'll hang out again. Okay, between the girl and Potter film, I think that's quite enough gushing for one entry. Not that I'm complaining, mind you.
Nox!
Pet Shop Boys - "I Wouldn't Normally Do This Kind Of Thing"
Ask me why
I'll say it's most unusual
How can I even try to explain
why today I feel like dancing
singing like lovers sing
when I wouldn't normally do this kind of thing?
I wouldn't normally do this kind of thing
Ask me when
I'll say it started when I met you
and ever since then I knew that the past couldn't last
For right now I think I'm running
a race I know I'm gonna win
and I wouldn't normally do this kind of thing
I wouldn't normally do this kind of thing
If people say I'm crazy
I tell them that it's true
Let them watch with amazement
say it won't last beyond breakfast
it's a phase he's going through
denigrate or speculate
on what I'm going through
because it isn't the sort of thing I'd normally do
Ask me what
I'll say I think it's good for you
Believe it or not I know where it's all leading to
I feel like taking all my clothes off
dancing to The Rite of Spring
and I wouldn't normally do this kind of thing
I wouldn't normally do this kind of thing
I wouldn't normally do this kind of
this kind of thing
