Wow, what an awesome weekend.
Started out kinda crummy, though. Saturday morning (and I do mean morning - 7:00am) I went to get the car fixed. What should have been simple problems ended up being about $200. Money that I needed for other things. But, the car's in okay shape once again. And considering I had a 4+ hour drive ahead of me that day, that's important. So anyway, I got a late start on my drive out to Coudersport. But the drive up was absolutely beautiful. Driving through the Allegheny National Forest in the autumn - Yo La Tengo on the speakers; a case of pumpkin ale in the back seat to drink later; a bit of pot in the glove, as well - it was about as perfect as it gets. I snapped a photo or two during the drive:
Certainly doesn't do it justice.
Anyway, arrived at the cabin and the good times began! (Pics in the Halloween folder.) The cabin was incredible. Kim's grandparents let us have the run of it for the weekend. It was sorta like The Big Chill, only without all the emotional baggage. The music wasn't quite as good, though.
It was a total escape, really. I know I complained about it being so far away, but looking back, I wouldn't have had it any other way now. Almost completely isolated (well, outside of the visit from the creepy guy down the road on Saturday night). If only one of us would have remained sober enough, we could have taken the tractor-type thing in the garage out for drunken hayrides. Ah well. Quoting tourettesguy.com was the order of the evening. BOB SAGET!
Sunday was spent loafing about the cabin, recovering and eating lots of Sheetz goodness. I think I'm actually becoming acclimated to being single for the first time in, well, ever. Sure, last year was fun, too, but it was all spent with Deena's friends and such. This year, it was whatever I wanted to do, hanging out with friends, reconnecting with old friends, meeting a few new ones. The physical side of things, yeah, of course I miss that. But that can be had with someone else down the line. Good friends don't always come along. I so need a non-night shift job. I'd be able to hang out more often.
And the drive back didn't last nearly long enough. I miss taking long drives so much. Listening to Neko Case and the Mountain Goats on country drives is zen enough for me. Awesome, awesome weekend.
Oh, I've been a-tagged. I suppose I should think of 20 interesting, or, barring that, random, facts about me.
1. I was on TRL once, where I met Carson Daly and Shaggy.
2. I haven't used a comb or a brush for over five years. My hair's so straight, I don't need one.
3. I can do a spot-on impression of Kermit the Frog and the Swedish Chef. This is my true ambition in life - to become the voice of Kermit.
4. I fall in love waaaay too easily.
5. I never kissed a girl until I was 18; never had sex until I was 21. Or maybe 22. It's a bit hazy.
6. I can be painfully shy, yet force myself to be social.
7. Autumn is my favorite season, and I'm pretty sure my favorite color has changed from blue to dark green.
8. I like to think of politics as just a really cerebral version of professional sports.
9. I have a terrible phobias about mold and financial failure.
10. The idea of constant darkness for months on end sounds really appealing. Mayhap I should move to Alaska.
11. Ian Curtis killed himself on May 18, 1980. I was born on May 22, 1980. When I was 16 and deep in the throes of Joy Division obsession, this factoid never failed to creep me out. In a good way.
12. I want to learn to play the keyboard more than anything. I used to play violin, but that skill has been lost to the sands of time.
13. I hate my first name (Keith). I love my middle name (Blair) and have often thought of legally changing it to that.
14. I alternate between being ashamed and perfectly comfortable with my sexual kinks.
15. I was born about 10-15 years too late.
16. I get angry/frustrated very easily, but I'm just as quick to forget it.
17. I fucking hate telephones.
18. I am absolutely powerless at the sight of a cute redhead.
19. I worry about my weight more than most women I know.
20. My favorite animal is the owl; my favorite flavor is pumpkin; my favorite...oh, screw it, I'm at a loss.
Today's lyrics:
Neko Case - "Guided By Wire"
Voices that did comfort me
Are furthest from my sanity
And come from places I have never seen
Even in my darkest recollection
There was someone singin' my life back to me
The life you learn from someone else
That you can only trust yourself
Sometimes that is still too much to want
Morality won't get you through the mazes
You can never travel by the way you've come
I could never choose the ones to love
And the ones who took the credit left me reelin'
But I owe much to the nameless and all those surrogates
Those who're singin' my life back to me
Life is not a constant thing
It's only made of short stories
I couldn't even tell you where I'm from
Guided by the voices I've perfected
Guided by electric wires' hum
I could never choose the ones to love
And the ones who took the credit left me reelin'
But I owe much to the nameless
Those who're singin' my life back to me
Well, I see you in the future, skippin' time
While the eyes of all the faithful rest in peace
But tonight I see the highway, like a cheat and a thug
And someone singin' my life back to me
Someone singin' my life back to me
