The Helloween party was lots of fun.
(I'm a master of the understatement.)
Met some great members, was out until 5:00am or something, etc. etc. Still, in some ways, it just made me realize I still have a lot of work to do, as far as "coming out of my shell" goes. I would have met even *more* people if I wasn't so shy and ass-backwards when it comes to meeting folks for the first time. And if I can't do that among like-minded people, well...meh. Really, though - I'll look on the bright side - a few years ago, I probably wouldn't have even been able to drag myself to attend something like this alone.
I was surprised how close the place was to my apartment; less than 15 minutes, in fact. I learn about more great places to hang out in Pittsburgh every weekend, it seems. I'm just hoping I can find another Halloween party to go to next weekend - dressing up just one night isn't enough - I need to get my inner Harry Potter on again!
And speaking of Potter-related matters, the Jarvis Cocker/Johnny Greenwood/Phil Selway collaboration at the Weird Sisters sounds pretty great on its own merits, not just as a nerdy Potter curio. "This Is The Night" is a damn solid song by any standards. It's almost Oingo Boingo-ish. Really, it's just nice to hear some new music from Cocker. Nothing earth-shattering; it's just a fun track. So, today's lyrics:
The Weird Sisters - "This Is The Night"
When all is dark and there's no light
Lost in the deepest star of night
I see you
Your hands are silky, baby
You ain't been sleepin' lately
There's somethin' out there
And it don't seem very friendly, does it?
If I could help you, I would help you
But it's difficult
There's something much more powerful
Than (I dunno)
I've got to get to grips
I don't want to feel like this
Your voice keeps haunting me
I cannot eat or sleep
I'm going crazy in this hazy fantasy
You put a spell on me
Oh, but I ain't goin' down alone
So take your hands off me
Tonight, I'm breakin' free
This is the night
This is the night
So take your hands off me
Tonight, I'm breakin' free
This is the night
This is the night
There was a time I would have walked
On burning coals for you
Sailed across the ocean blue
Climbed the highest mountain
Just to call your name
The moon throws down his light
And cuts me to the quick tonight
The change is in the air
And nothing will ever be the same
You still look good to me
Ooh, but you're no good for me
I close my eyes
And squeeze you from my consciousness
And in the morning when I wake
I walk the line and walk it straight
But the morning's so many miles away
God god now
So take your hands off me
Tonight, I'm breakin' free
This is the night
This is the night
So take your hands off me
Tonight, I'm breakin' free
This is the night
This is the night
