I finally sent out a milk memo from my new domain. Just last month I was ready to close up shop. I had written this long essay saying how maybe it was time to walk away, that I didn't feel I had much left to say. It was sitting in my Outbox ready to go. Then, I went to Nashville.
There, a woman that I didn't know had been reading my work said one essay in particular "saved her". Her words, not mine. And another guy said that when he was unemployed my milk memos were what he held on to and that they helped him get through a serious depression. I just kept hearing it left and right. They were upset I hadn't put something out in a while.
It's a strange thing, such confidence that people have in another's words. I am really quite stupid, but I hide it well. Frankly, I just take the good stuff I learn from others and recycle it out with a wink here and a nudge there. My advantage is that I seem to be hitting a group of people that are mostly ignored by others in my field. That's what Missy did here with SG too.
Anywho... This latest milk memo was a call to artists, especially musicians. Basically I grew weary of hearing the political complaints of my musician friends, many of who do not vote in local or national elections and avoid even the appearances of validating the process. Almost like it's hip to be ignorant. I had been listening to Faithless while visiting LA and had the rare pleasure of finding all kinds of intelligent propaganda throughout the apartment of my musical genius friend. I wonder. What are so many of us afraid of?
So, the words just filled a page as the Roots CD pushed me on. Here is a small bit from the memo result. It's called Flesh to Bone
The problem of war and humanity
Lies not with the captive, but those who are free
Our actions, reactions is proof enough of
Who weve really become, what we really love
A man who walks away from another in need
Because of his color, location or creed
Hes destined to lose his honor to greed
Like a hopeless addict destroying his seed
Music is to peace as flesh is to bone
Your vote is as good as a live microphone
Music is to peace as flesh is to bone
Your vote is as good as a live microphone
If you have any interest in being added to the milk memo list, let me know.
It's a good day.

Is it TOO over the top? Should I get rid of it?
