WARNING! NOT FOR THE FAINT OF HEART
Today I want to talk to you about something serious. A lot of people ignore this simple thing that can be a major impact on your life and the lives of others if not treated with care: Bad oral hygiene.
Okay, I'm going to try to make this understandable and give you pretty pictures like this:
Aren't those pretty? Well, they shouldn't be. That is Lactobacilli and Streptococci mutant - both found in the mouth. Those, and about 400 distinct strands of bacterium can be found on that nasty white/yellowish 'fuzz' that you find on your teeth and gingival regions also known as dental plaque. You know what those bacteriums are doing in there? Well, I will tell you the same way I tell children that don't brush their teeth: Those are bugs pooping on your teeth. Not only are they pooping on your teeth, they are doing this:
Those pretty little looking things are eventually doing that to your pretty little chompers. Yuck. That is a good picture of full progressive periodontal disease. It starts out as gingivitis, a serious irritation in the oral cavity due to lack of proper hygiene. It causes tender or even painful sores in the mouth.
Still pretty? You might not think that is so bad by just looking at it, but when you get underneath the surface (we all know how things like to have an underlying truth) things get more interesting.
On the left is healthy bone. On the right is bone recession due to minor periodontal disease.
Yeah, I know, anyone can draw a picture, but is it true? I'm glad you asked.
If you look at that x-ray, on the top row of teeth, you can see the bone hugging really close to the roots, and a shadow of where the bone used to be. Yup, we all know what I'm getting at here now: No bone attachment = nothing to hold your teeth in. Edentulous means you have no teeth. If you don't take care of them, they are not going to stick around. They will high tail it like a gold digger who finds out her sugar daddy went bankrupt.
Even if you have no teeth, you can still get stuff like this:
That my friend is called leukoplakia, other wise known as hairy tongue. Isn't that sexy?
So before I can go off even more and show disgusting pictures (yes, those weren't the disgusting pictures I have at my disposal. Google that shit.), I just want to say brush your damn teeth, or at least invest in some mf mints. It's offensive. Your breath makes god kill kittens. I would rather sit behind country boys after a bean eating contest. You catch my drift yet?
Fun fact: Brushing your teeth reduces your chances of heart disease.
Interesting fact about me: I <3 the smell of burning teeth when teeth are being drilled. That's what I miss the most about sitting chairside
