This is a note that I've posted in other places, but feel I need to post here as I've been a part of this community for a years with no trouble whatsoever (actually I've had lots of people support us and our articles on the state of US soccer), until this week:
I've read comments today about the reversal of fortune for the US men's national football team...I need to make one thing clear in the "Klinsmann was the man and now is not" situation today:
Klinsmann backing out is not my husband's decision, it is Klinsmann's. And a reluctance to negotiate further is on US Soccer's part, not a conspiracy to make my husband look bad for his reporting of the facts.
I happy to discuss privately what went wrong, but I have to say publicly...
Don't shoot the messenger -- you should be angry with US Soccer and Klinsmann for letting the deal go bad. It was SIGNED when he reported the news and that is fact.
If you feel my husband had a hand in this, you need to know his sources were solid, no matter what anyone else thinks, and NO, he will not name them.
I invite you to contact me privately, but urge those people who are doing it to stop calling publicly for the death of my husband. There is something very, very wrong about that declaration that I cannot believe you don't see. It is sport. As we are at war with other countries, shame on you -- I think you need to dig a bit deeper to know yourself and know life's priorities. Be well and happy holidays.
Con amor, Li.
