Without feeling pain or hurt we would never truly feel alive. Whatever happens to us today prepares us for something we may know that is going to happen or something we would never expect. Locking your heart you will definitely miss the pain but also miss the joy. By the way if you ever look at a poison ivy plant it's beautiful, just misunderstood.
