I gotta say, next "Rehab" joke pertaining to Amy Winehouse that I see in my Facebook news feed, or overhear, I might just punch that person in the face. I didn't listen to much of her music and only what I knew about her is what would randomly be on the news, tabloids or whatever online. I know she did some covers of the Specials, and I have a couple of her line in Fred Perry. I am just tired of something tragic happening to celebrities, or going on with celebrities, and everyones gotta have a laugh, or a say in it.
Sure she had her problems, as has everyone. Can you imagine being in your twenties and having that type of money and fame? My mom has said "sometimes people have enough money to kill themselves with." and thats what unfortunately happens with a lot of young celebrities. I've noticed celebrities are often dehumanized, even in tragedy. Who would want jokes being made internationally if it were you, or a friend, or a family member, that died. I can't really think of anyone who would. Seems like the human element of empathy is becoming a lost art as we make some sort of cultural shift to a more self-centered society.
She was someones daughter. Just something to think about.
To quote the great Joe Strummer::
I'd like to say that people people can change anything they want to; and that means everything in the world. Show me any country and there'll be people in it. And it's the people that make the country. People have got to stop pretending they're not on the world. People are running about following their little tracks. I am one of them. But we've all gotta stop just stop following our own little mouse trail. People can do anything; this is something that I'm beginning to learn. People are out there doing bad things to each other; it's because they've been dehumanized. It's time to take that humanity back into the centre of the ring and follow that for a time. Greed... it ain't going anywhere! They should have that on a big billboard across Times Square. Think on that. Without people you're nothing.
