i almost hit a...sorta kind of bumped...i had an incident with a deer.
it was around 2:30am last night. i had gotten off work, driving on this dark long road by my house. i was tired n couldn't wait to be in bed sleeping. i'm going a little fast, but not as fast as normal. i see this deer, small, maybe a teenager but not any older, run out into the road. i slam on my brakes. the car skids some. shit that was in my rear window alcove flies to the front seat. it's flashing thru my mind that this is going to be my first accident and i may get hurt or even die. i skid to a stop. the deer stumbles and falls and gets up and runs off across the street. i don't even know if i touched it at all.
afterwards, i was shakey. i had slipped down into my seat, the belt now about a foot above where it was before. i throw the sit that ended up in the front back to the back.
when i slept, i was curled up in the fetal position, tight and tense. when i slept, it wasn't steady, at best four hours in one stretch. when i slept, most of it was an hour here and there.
it occurred to me afterwards that i had just had my brakes replaced less than a month ago. i took a moment and thanked GOD.
to add insult, or maybe irony, to injury, the deer crossing sign was posted less than fifty feet past where the incident occured.
