quite a few people were wondering why my share of the comcast bill was so high. well, it's for a few annoying reasons. 1) we just got comcast installed (ie installation fee). 2) we alse got internet with it (hence how i get to converse with you lovely folks). 3) since it's both i and alex living here, to appease the landlord we offered to pay half the utilities. or, rather, i pay half the utilities since he does not currently have a job.
all of the above is why kristen is getting fucked hard, not in the good way, by her monthly rent and utilities.
this month may not be so bad *knock on wood* though. according to the boyfriend, no other utilities bills have come in the mail. so, i may only have to pay the $550 in rent. i'm keeping my fingers crossed for that.
i worked the load-in for the nickleback/hoobastank/3 days grace/hinder show at merriweather today. it's nothing like an iatse call to make me realize how much more money i could be making if i we not a light board op intern for olney. still, good experience and a line on the resume, blah blah blah. if i worked only the load in and out of a show at the minimum hours for the calls, i would still make about $90 for my day (8*$11 after taxes, $17 before). that's almost as much as i make doing a week of shows for olney. i want to kick myself almost on a daily basis when i realize how stupid i was to not immediately start working for the union fulltime right out of college. by now, i probably would be making at least $1800 a month. that's an 8 hour call a day for five days a week, which is probably less then what most of those guys are doing. they regularly will pull 12 hour days. and then the OT kicks in and the checks begin to look real pretty. no struggling for rent each month. no worrying about credit card or cell phone bills. a much easier life financially, though definantly more aches and pains at night.
but then again, if i hadn't been so stupid, i never would have met alex, i wouldn't been living where i am now (so close to where my two best friends are moving), and i don't know if i would be as happy as i am, poverty and all.
life is so fucking trippy.
