because Christmas, I rewatched sappy romance holiday favourite love actually and quite quickly became woke AF and realised its actually the anti love movie.
There are multiple chilling reasons to hate this movie which I feel are wonderfully depicted in This blog (click to read) that perfectly explains how female objectification, human trafficking and male privlage do not make a romantic story.
However I want to focus on one point in particular which is FAT FETISHISM.
Hugh Grant plays awkwardly charming Prime Minister David an apparently loveable character because he falls for ordinary chubby girl Natalie in spite of her thick thighs #eyeroll.
Now let me break this down for you its made very clear in this movie it doesnt matter what "fatalie" is actually like hes gonna like her no matter what cause she his type...."fat"!!
But why is this wrong? you may ask, plently of ppl like different things bigger girls being one of them.
Your right, liking bigger girls is totally cool and healthy its when you stop loving whats inside and out and objectify a person for that fat that it becomes a problem.
How to tell someone may be objecitfying you... if they focus purely on only your physical attributes like weight or measurements and only complementing your biggest areas instead of loving you because your mind is as beautiful as your body.
Now this sums up the prime ministers storyline to the letter! All focus points are about how chubby Natalie is and because 99% of female characters in this movie have basicly no dialogue except to giggle and say yes when a man wants them we know its not about the "witty banter"
Also I know the supposed reason they must keep the new relationship hush hush is because of his job but it all rings to true to men fetishizing plus women secretly whilst publicly pushing them down or "firing" them like what happened in this movie.
There is a very real struggle for plus women worried wether they are just being objectified for their body by the men that claim to adore them so I hope if you read this blog you think about it and don't let money making hollywood movies stop people from being decent human beings.
