How to make an Indie Gal feel awkward:
Bring her to a hardcore all-ages show-- she'll stick out so bad that it's hilarious.
Seriously, I've never felt more out of place in my life. Amongst the sea of fifteen year-old's in their black tshirts and heavy eyeliner, I stood in my tan corduroys and argyle sweater (with princess-poof sleeves!) trying to bob my head to the music. It was so obviously not my scene that it was ridiculous. If I hadn't been there with LordPyrate (which gave me a certain amount of hardcore scene cred, really) I'm sure I would have been beaten up.
Well, ok, maybe that's a little drastic.
The lead singer of Thorazine, the last band that played, turned out to be a guy in my drawing class. It was so weird seeing him up there screaming incoherently into the mic and totally rocking out. I felt like I discovered his secret out-of-art-school identity. I'm resisting the urge to approach him in the caf on Monday to whisper "I know who you are...." in his ear.
Though I felt like a fish outta water (as I often do in prairie-livin'), it was a lot of fun being in an environment that was completely out of my element.
The rest of the night, Chris and I went hunting for the perfect Slurpee and went back to his place. He gave me an excellent idea for a new handbag to print. All you comic geeks are gunna love it (and for the low, low price of $40.00 CDN shipping incl., it can be yours!).
Speaking of printing, it's time I got my ass to the studio. For anyone that's local, there's a show atThe Night Gallery tonight that should be a lot of fun. Mico's playing and and and yea.
