So with the release of the Xbox ONE and Playstation 4, i was wonder. As a company that puts millions of dollars and man hours into producing a "Next Gen" game console that is supposed to deliver true High Definition, why would you turn around and say Oh the games look and play some much better on lesser resolutions. That makes no sense. This is not to mention the Day 1 gremlins that plague all consoles, Yes i am reminded of the PS2's Disk Read Errors... >.<.
So with this in mind, game companies, would it not work out better in the long run to limit the media campaigns and instead focus more of the Hardware and Software Alphas? or go more with Random closed BETAS, Much like what Steam is doing with their "SteamBox" . This could in theory reduce the number of Day 1 "gremlins" that make it through. I mean seriously. You have a 500$ bit of hardware that either; bricks itself when reading a disk, does not power on that all, or a Cooling System that is non-functional. This is no bueno people, get your heads out of your collective asses. I personally notice this trend years back when E3 became a "Press Only" peep-show. They kicked out the gamers the ones flipping the bill. and lo and behold the gremlins will roll.
