I have come to find as I've gotten older that people are, when you get right down to it, quite easy to see through.
We like to believe that we're all deep, complex creatures - unpredictable, and far too unique to be easily dissected or categorized. But in truth, we're actually fairly transparent. Our experiences affect our motives. Our motives dictate our actions, and our actions help to create our experiences. We all want the same basic things (to be loved, to be respected, to be comfortable, to be remembered, to be wise, to be happy, etc, etc..)
We all have an image of ourselves; of the person we want to be, and the person we hate to admit to being. But regardless of the methodology, in the end, it all comes down to the same thing; we're searching for that same pot at the end of the rainbow (we just have our own idea of the perfect shortcut.) It's just a matter of which particular set of values we emphasize.
I'm rarely shock by people's behavior, these days. Sometimes disappointed, sometimes relieved, but very rarely shocked...
(sorry...working customer service always makes me kind of a philosophizin' asshole ...)
Anyways...
Life continues to be good...now I just wait for a paycheck, which I will then promptly blow on Ikea, Buffalo Exchange, and Trader Joe's.
And perhaps one night of heavy drinking...although I am quite happy to stay away from any regular bouts of alcohol-consumption...
