I have recently been hanging out with my 2 young (ages 2 and 4) god daughters recently and I've come to learn a few things about what a parent goes through;
Every parent wishes they had an extra 2 arms or more, especially when it's time to get ready to go out. Leave yourself an extra 30 minutes to get the kids ready to go anywhere. Quiet time is actually designed for parents, though it's really beneficial to the kids as well. Sugar, while it gives kids an immediate rush of energy also gives them a very big let down shortly after and is fantastic when going for long car rides - I recommend lolly pops, even though it will make a mess. Loud, white noise is amazing for making young kids fall asleep - I have no idea why at the moment, but they love it! Be prepared to play the part of a horse, dinosaur, princess (laugh all you want), or some other critter. Sarcasm is completely lost on them, do not ask them to do something sarcastically, they'll actually do it. The question "why" happens lots. They say the funniest things at the most precious times. What they liked to eat yesterday will change today - deal with it. Finally, they're always adorable, and every day you'll learn something new about yourself because of them, and that is priceless along with them.
My congrats goes out to all parents and this makes me appreciate what mine did for me while I was growing up. I'm also so incredibly happy that I have god daughters to learn all this with. I'm sure it will be invaluable experience for the potential day if I have any of my own children.
