Today, the little girl that I babysit was really affectionate. While we were waiting for her gymnastics class to start, we stood outside the gym with a throng of other parents and their children, and she wanted to be picked up and held. She kept calling me "Mommy." Clearly, I was getting a lot of strange (i.e. how-old-was-she-when-she-had-this-kid) looks, but considering that I'm mistaken for her mother at least twice a week, I'm getting used to that. I was really flattered that she was being so lovey.
Then she waves at a classmate of hers and announces, "I have TWO MOMMIES!"
Today, my friends, I became one of the youngest lesbian parents you're ever met. At least in the eyes of twenty or so New Yorkers.
And I feel great about that. She really likes me! I've won the kid over! I'm her lesbian mommy!
