I got carded in a sex shop yesterday. The woman who asked me for ID was completely convinced that I was underaged - even after I proved that I'm nearly a year past "of age," she was skeptical.
A lot of people mistake me for being older than I am, but every once in a while, I find someone who sincerely believes that I'm 14. Right before I got my wisdom teeth taken out last year, a nurse scoffed at a comment I made about looking forward to coming to New York for school. "College? You can't be going to college! You're just a baby! You don't look nearly old enough for that."
It's funny but it also bothers me, and I'm not sure why. Maybe I worry that it means people won't take me seriously, or maybe it makes me feel desexualized. I should learn to enjoy it, though - there has to be a couple of advantages to looking like I've just hit adolesence, besides "You'll be happy about it in ten years."
So, I pose the question, what good things come with looking younger than you are?
