So....the new Van Halen record came out this past week....first full-length album with David Lee Roth in nearly 3 decades. There's been SO much drama involved with this band especially in the past 20 years or so that it's miraculous this even came to pass. I really believe Eddie Van Halen is unstable at best as a person, but as a musician he seems to still have the chops. First off, I'm not a "Van Hagar" hater. I love Sammy, and I loved Van Halen WITH Sammy. He brought a different dynamic to the band which worked for me...and obviously a lot of others felt the same. However, many disliked that version of the band for whatever reason. Well now is the time for all those haters to step up to the plate and buy this new album. Because if they truly wanna make a statement, then they should make sure this NEW Van Halen vaults to the top of the charts. That will teach Sammy a lesson, right? Somehow....I don't think Sammy cares. He's like the hard rock version of Jimmy Buffett...just having fun, and no fucking bullshit.

Anyway, I think the new record is pretty good. It's become well known that probably 60% of it is recycled songs from the 70s that were left off those landmark albums....but who cares? 99% of the public never heard those in their raw incarnations. The bottom line is that for an album many fans have been waiting for almost 30 years...it delivers some catchy hooks, some memorable riffs, and provides a few earworms. "You and Your Blues", "Chinatown", "She's the Woman" - just 3 of the highlights in my opinion. So go get yourself some Diamond Dave....and just be glad everyone seems to have forgotten about Gary Cherone
