Just now recovering from birthday..which wasn't really all that wild, just a bit stressful.
I had about a dozen friends out to the house..my dining room is now full of flowers from friends' gardens. Kellyboy and Wendy made me a cake, and a good time was had by all. Dan was the last to leave, as he wanted to pet Memphis (his kitty that I'm taking care of temporarily/indefinitely).
I'm not usually the one throwing parties, as having that many people in my living space usually makes me want to run and hide. However..when everyone showed up and had such a great time, and it was at my request, I did feel loved. And that is a great way to spend a birthday.
Tomorrow morning I'm heading down to Dakota MN to go kayaking all weekend with a friend from college. Actually she was my faculty advisor, but the friend part quickly eclipsed the academic part. I'm bringing my paddle and vest, but using one of her boats because I don't have the setup on my car yet to haul my own dear boat too far from home. That will likely be next summer's birthday present to myself.
I am soooooo looking forward to this. I tend to feel cooped up if I'm in the city for too long..getting out into nature and dirt and water and bugs and fresh air makes me feel centered and whole again. My childhood dream was to be a canoe guide in the Boundary Waters Canoe Area, and I'm now wondering if I had it right as a twelve year old. Maybe I'm not city folk after all..maybe I should chase my innate dream.
At least part time.

I did not end up getting called to the club last night. And I was so glad for that. The owner told me she probably wouldn't need me this weekend because she thought she had the shift covered. She just asked me to be on-call.
So, at 10:05, I popped in my housemate's boot of Farenheit 9/11 and had a few beers. That movie was so... I dunno. It rehashed a lot of what I knew and confirmed a few of my suspicions. Almost enough to get me to register to vote- it I thought it counted.
