So I've been thinking about which is the best gig I've been to so far in my lifetime. It's not been easy as I've seen a stupid amount of bands in the 10 years or so I've been going to gigs and festivals. I think I've come up with my answer...
Eight years ago, pretty much to the day, I travelled from my quiet little univeristy town of Cheltenham to London to meet with 5 of my friends from back home, Michelle, Jen, Roosh, Jayne and Mike. We went to a Pizza Hut in Leicester Square before heading over to the Astoria. We had to queue for a bit but we didn't mind as it gave us a chance to catch up since the last time I was home. We made our way into the venue and found a good spot with a good view. Then we waited. And waited. And waited. Finally the headlining band, Blink 182 took to the stage.
It's at this point I would like to point out that Blink 182 were never the greatest live band ever. Many people have commented on their lack of 'finesse' and 'musical talent' on stage. Well sir, I don't care about any of that. That night, they were mind-blowingly good! The energy those guys poured into the show was impressive. I remember bouncing around the pit with a big doopey grin on my face, singing along to every word! When the gig was over, I was buzzing and I didn't sleep at all that night. My friends all enjoyed themselves but I don't think they could quite match my enthusiasm!
Since that night, I haven't been to a gig that's made me feel that good. I don't know if that's a good or a bad thing. All I know is, whenever I think about that night, I smile. That's gotta be good, right?
So now it's your turn. What was the best gig you've ever been to? xxx
