I love driving, seriously I do, even though I live and work in and around London I love it.
Like I know a lot of people see it as a means of getting from a-b and it can be stressful when your stuck in gridlock and you needed to be at your destination 10 minutes ago and I'm not saying I don't get like that, if you know the Blackwall tunnel that links south and north London I suffer the agony of trying to get my ass through there to work far too often.
However there are days when the traffic is light, the sun is out (or even not I like rainy drives too), you don't have to be anywhere at any time and you can just cruise, take the scenic route. That is what I love, your favourite music or radio station or I've gotten quite in to listening to audio books whilst I'm driving and you just have the whole world just the other side of the glass for you to explore, go wherever you like, whenever you like with whomever you like. It's that little bit of freedom you get in a society these days where you, although we like to think otherwise, aren't very free at all, chained to things like work.
Today I drove the hundred or so miles between Dartford where I live and where my family lives near Kettering, I turned up The Offspring (judge me if you will but I was feeling nostalgic) and once I was off the motorways the country roads were a delight to cruise around sunglasses, Windows down, the only downside was I was alone in the car, but you can't have everything ;P
A few years ago me, @locknut158 and his other half were planning a road trip around the UK visiting all sorts of cool and interesting places around the country. In the end it fell through and we went to Malta instead (which was one of the best holidays I've ever had so in the end not an entirely bad thing) however I'd still like to do it one day. So what road trips has everyone else been on? Where would you like to go? Give me some ideas!
Peace, Pierre.
