It was so sad to wake up this morning to the news of Ian 'Lemmy' Kilmisters tragic passing. Not only was he an absolute legend for rock n roll, but he was also one of the few genuine connections me and my dad have. My dad is a huge Motorhead fan and I grew up listening to their songs in the car to swimming lessons, or on full blast in the house whenever my Mum was out (LOUD is the only way to listen to Motorhead!) My dad would tell me stories of Lemmy, such as how he got the nickname 'Lemmy' in the first place, and I remember for days going up to my dad saying 'Lemme a fiver' until only one of us still found it funny (Me)
When I was older I bought us tickets to go and see Motorhead playing live and I think my dad was slightly shocked, but also proud, when I ran off to join the mosh pit for 'Ace of Spades' (who could resist!?)
I will always be able to share this bond with my dad, and in honour of this great man I am going to take a bottle of JD & coke round to his later to raise a glass in his spirit.
RIP Lemmy
