I've been to both oceans... one when I was too young to remember... well actually all I remember is being pulled into it against my will on my fathers shoulders thinking that there would be a squid like in the popeye movie... I think that movie may be the root of many of my psychological problems.... I went to the bay area a year or so ago and I took the little tour in a boat out around Alcatraz... not exactly the time of my life because, again, I was being drug along by my father. The one thing I enjoyed though was the four hours I got to spend out by myself in Sanfran. I wen't to a little jazz club and drank martini's. I wish now that I had bought the trio's cd because I have yet to find anything that could match it around where I live. Or an equal martini for that matter. As I was walking back to my cousins appartment that night... (that is where we were staying because like it says in my profile I am a mooch and it runs in my blood) I met a bum who was standing outside a club where a punk show had just gotten out. A show that I kinda wish I had known about. He assumed that I was inside at the show and I decided to humor him.
" You kids man, You kids are crazy, bangin into each other and runnin around... man I never seen anything like that when I was young"
"Yeah pretty crazy I said"
"Na, It ain't crazy.. I can see by the look in your kids eyes that you had a good time.. I seen black kids white kids girls and guys.. all gettin along... all slammin into each other... Its good man... and I appreciate it"
He then shook my hand and then coughed into his jacket sleeve. I watched as he continued to walk down the street sipping from an unknown bottle... all the way untill he sat down next to a walll by himself staring at stoplights. Every kid who was at that show walked by that man with indiference... never knowing that that bum on the road appreciated what they are and what they do. I looked in his eyes to that night and I realized, I'm glad I was at that jazz club.
