My constant personal dilemma:
I want to just make music for the rest of my life, but I never know how. I hit this mental brick walls and it seems I never actually do nearly as much creating as I want to. I can't get myself to commit to any career path because I feel like being an artist is what I have to do, but I also can't ever seem to get myself to commit to that very well either. This makes me wonder if I'll just spend the rest of my life running in circles, avoiding the life that's expected of me and yet never reaching the life that i expect of myself. It makes me wonder if I really know at all what I want out of life.
Do you know what you want out of life? Do you REALLY know? How sure are you? How much detail do you have or how broad are the possibilities? If you can just list 10 things you'd like to do in your lifetime, do it.
-start a band/have a career as a recording artist
-own a coffee shop
-live on a farmhouse
-live in Israel for one year
-go on a road trip along the west coast and visit all the major cities out there
-become proficient in an instrument other than guitar (cello or violin would be AWESOME, but piano would do...)
-be vegan - more just to be able to accomplish that milestone than necessarily because i feel i should be. If i can live happily as a vegan, then I would easily
-meet/get to personally know an artist that's inspired me
-adopt a bazillion cats
-accomplish everything on this list, and then a whole lot more
edit:
If you love me, you will listen to Joe Volk's version of "Wicked Game" on his myspace page at www.myspace.com/joevolk
Joe is the lead singer for the amazing experimental indie-rock band Crippled Black Phoenix, who's premiere album blew my mind when I bought it shortly after moving to NYC. Check them out
