I saw Matisyahu in concert on the last day of Hannukah. I went with my lifelong best friend, my new girlfriend, and my good friend/mentor and his wife. As such, it was BOUND to be a good time. But seriously, that concert kicked WAY more ass than i expected.
The opening act was a solid and a really fun group. They played like 45 minutes. But that was barely anything
Matisyahu's band played for three solid hours. They brought out like 7 different guest artists during the course of the night - an Israeli playing some traditional eastern instruments, another Jewish Rapper from Boston, a violinist and solo guitarist, and a rap duo from Brooklyn. and more, i just don't recall... The music ranged from psychadelic ambiance, to roots reggae, to some really intense hip-hop grooves.
Matisyahu's beat boxing is UNBELIEVABLE. So good, in fact, that I actually thought it was just a drum machine playing until i saw what we was doing. I honestly didn't think beatboxing COULD be that good, let alone hearing it at this show. Apparently he's considered one of the best in the world.
all in all, it was totally worth the 40 bux and I would definitely go see him again in concert as soon as I have the chance. Really, just wow. Awesomeee
