I am really loving being at my school. I've met some cool people (i'm still slow at the whole social thing but i'm getting there) and in a general sense i really like my class. There isn't anybody who's been an asshole or a loudmouth. It's really cool that everybody really wants to learn. Or at least the people who are seriously into it outnumber anyone who isn't, so we don't have loudmouths wasting our time. My friend Kam (who started at the same school in August) kinda made me afraid of it. But lately i think he's just got a really condescending attitude towards a lot of other people... it makes me sad
there are a lot of Hip-Hop heads in this school. Like they way outnumber the rock guys.. Actually i'm the only self-proclaimed rock guy in my class. But it's awesome cuz everybody's way more open-minded and cool about things than i was expecting. Like a lot of the guys who are all about rap are totally down with hard rock and a lot of the classic shit like floyd and hendrix and the like. But what i like the most is that i'm experiencing a totally different American subculture that i was never really aware of. I hear a lot of these guys talking about hip-hop and arguing and it's not just "Yo, Fitty is the hottest MC eva!" They actually talk like legit shit about how the big hip-hop moguls are entrepreneurs and are totally business smart and all this other stuff. It's like... it's just a whole other world.
I never understood that hip-hop is more than just a different genre of music. I've always held rap artists up to the same kind of model i held rock artists up to and now i realize you just can't do that. It's like comparing classical musicians to jazz musicians... It's not trying to do the same thing.. It doesn't come from the same place. Despite how much rock is about being wild and unconventional and totally against the norm, it really all still hails from certain traditions and ideals that have been passed down to us and we have these preconceived notions of what an "artist" should be. But hip-hop is just a different animal. And i'm trying to learn as much about it as i can because i think it's fascinating.
I really am happy with my decision to attend this school. Now i just have all these other panicky troubles to deal with. But for now i'm back at the parents place for Thanksgiving vacation and i shall be VERY relaxed. Aight?
In case i don't hear from you kids, have a HAPPY THANKSGIVING!

Mario Galaxy is the true heir to the throne of Mario. It's a lot like Mario 64, but is even better than that legendary game. It's absolutely amazing.
