Back on the attack after my weekend sojourn to northern California, and what a spectacular fucking weekend it was! I feel positively rejuvenated and bright. Really didn't want to come home!
The conference I attended took place at an environmental camp outside of Redding and Whiskeytown, in
Shasta and Humboldt counties. Three days of rural cabins tucked in mountain niches miles away from town, three days of deer at your cabin door and skipping rocks on a frigid mountain stream. Three days of civic engagement and cute, intelligent hippieish chicks. Pretty much heaven, even though I couldn't find any of the famed Humboldt county weed.
Two life changes happened this weekend at the conference:
1. At age 24, I finally learned to like vegetables. I've always hated most vegetables and had never successfully eaten a salad until this weekend. The first night was a meatless dinner, just a potato and a salad. I was sort of upset, and although I didn't say anything rude, I think I hurt the feelings of the girl in charge of the food. I felt awful, so I apologized repeatedly and ate a giant salad. Then I ate some raw carrots and sweet peppers, and then some tofu. By this point I realized that I was actually enjoying what I was eating, and I've been eating veggies for days now! Meat too, of course, not going that far. But this is a huge personal victory for me!
And the second thing:
2. I gave my first public guitar performance! I brought my guitar, and every night myself and another guy played guitar for everyone by the fire, once joined by a girl with a fiddle and a mandolin. It was so fucking awesome to play for people and have them enjoy it. Huge confidence builder.
So, great fucking weekend overall. Also developed a huge crush on this girl from Humboldt State, and I think she may have been reciprocating (I'm really bad at signals), but she lives about 7 hours away. So fuck it, I suppose.
Overall Kyle mood:
