ok so like..for the last few months I've been really questioning myself and what I do...considering changes..quitting music.
However, the last few weeks have brought a bit of a change of attitude. Why? I've been more observant for one. I notice that when we set up to play at our regular gigs....there will be a roomfull of people just hanging out, drinking..generally nothing much going on. Normal club-like activity. Then all the sudden, we start playing, and those first notes are hit...you look around at the faces..something magic happens.
People all the sudden smile automatically. Hips and bodies start shaking, immediately people change. It's instantaneous....the reaction. It seems an incredible thing the way you can give joy to people with music. It's weird, but I feel truly blessed with the ability to do this.
We played the cape cod jazz festival last night. There wasnt an empty seat in the whole place. Although our band is more of an R&B/funk thing, the crowd that came expecting to see jazz (as some famous jazz artists have played there over the last weeks) applauded loudly at every number. No one left..not even the older folks. By the end of the night everyone was dancing and going crazy. People coming up between every set letting us know how much they were enjoying themselves and the music. I felt like a real person and musician again ...with a purpose. Something I haven't felt in a long time. Life is not so bad.
