For Thanksgiving, I'm visiting my parents in Upstate New York. To get here from Chicago, I took Amtrak overnight to Syracuse. It wasn't fun, but it wasn't bad either. Definitely worth the price savings over flying (about $210 round trip per person vs. like $450 to fly).
I had taken Amtrak a couple months ago to see the Foo Fighters in St. Louis and the train was a bit cold, so I dressed accordingly for the train last night... and it ended up being quite warm. I was miserable and sweaty most of the ride and barely able to get much sleep. At one point I went into the bathroom so I could take my sweater off for a little while and cool off. When I got it off, it was all heavy from the sweating. Definitely going to need dry cleaned so I can wear it again.
Once I got here and showered, it's been alright. I've been away from here for probably 3-4 years since my last visit (and moved out for good in like 1996, except for a couple months in early 2000 after I finished school and had officially started my Chicago-based job, but before I moved out there), and it's always so different than I remember. And the well water that comes out of the faucet always catches me by surprise.
We're doing our big meal on Friday and I'll probably hit a 2-3 record stores in Ithaca in the morning while they're preparing the meal (I help on specific things and otherwise stay out of the meal).
Hope everyone is safe and enjoying the holiday and having positive experiences that will age into cherished memories.
*hugs*
