I was reading AnnaLee's always interesting blog and it brought me back to something I have been mulling over for the past year which is this:
My question to the doomsayers and the masters of war, those who are cynical and think we are all going to fuck it up or that God is going to bring on the Apocolypse, if that is the case, then what is it all for? Why would one bother to live if they don't think there is a future? Why not just end it? Why bother creating society, economies, art or having children if you think that ultimately we will fail?
We all have our moments of doubt and pain, but isn't it better to believe that we can succeed? That all we have built on this tiny little grain of sand, amongst a million other grains of sand, over such a small amount of time; Isn't it better to know it is for something? So that we can, as a species, leave behind a mark? A footprint at the least? I'm sure that's what are ancestor's thought in those first days, when they marked the walls of caves, and created the first tools. They wanted their descendents and the Gods, to know that they took the gift of self-awareness and did something with it. Maybe with that gift, we too may spark another form of life and imbue it with the gift of self awareness and it too, will follow a similar path and so and so forth. and in that way, we become immortal. Maybe, we will be able to live long enough as a race that we transcend our little failures and imperfections and transform; become something else entirely, a new species, perhaps we will transcend physical form alltogether and become pure thought, moving about through time/space at will free of bills and unemployment, bad TV and car ads (Uggg!), no cavities, no work, no war. Of course, it will take a lot of sacrifice of good things too, no more physical contact, no early morning cuddles, no sad-bastard love songs, no laughing children.
So enjoy those things now, while you have them. Try not to hate, love more, cut open that silence and let some of those emotions bleed forth in positive ways by creating and loving.
Reject cynical views and zealots who tell you you will fail. Find your heart and put it on a flag and wear it like a Samurai riding into battle, unafraid of failure or death. Sing songs aloud even if can't carry a tune; dance in your home while cleaning; climb the hills above your town and just watch it for an hour or so; tell her/him/them how you feel and try to kill as few insects as possible as they are the true masters of the planet.
You can choose life or choose to live in fear that your children won't have a planet, that we will destroy it all soon, that God will come from the sky and save the faithful but the rest will die horrible, agonizing deaths.
Like Mark Renton at the end of Trainspotting, I say "Choose Life."
Oh and yes, I changed my name, again. I love Phantomas because, what is he really all about? I question I find myself asking about myself lately as I truly try to define my core. I'm trying to eliminate the things I know I am not. Fucking mid-life crises'! Hah!
and now a word from our sponsors!
