I have hated the last six weeks at work! (well, technically it was only five weeks because i had a week off)
I was recently promoted to manager of one of the other stores on our district. to start with i was happy about this and was feeling up for the challenge. However, as time went on i found it too much of a challenge. It's a great store, with a lot of potential and a lot of problems. within a week of being there i had a supervisor leave (and not hand in her notice, she just walked out) and had another member of staff just stop turning up for work. This left us, understandably, short staffed. which made life difficult as there were a lot of holidays to cover. then there was just problems with the general running of the store, which wasn't helped by the way the previous managers had run things. (not that everything they did made life difficult, so i don't want it to sound like i'm just bitching and blaming all the problems i had on the previous managers.). The general attitude of a lot of the staff didn't help. for the most part they were stuck in the ways and not very helpful.
This all left me feeling stressed and very run down. my friends were worried about me, my boss at my old store was worried about me. It was the first time that i really hated going to work.
However, now i'm feeling a lot happier. Last friday i had an e-mail from my district manager saying he wanted me to go to a meeting with him on saturday morning. i thought it was for a bollocking, cos he wasn't very happy with the store the last few times he'd been in. After a bit of (very useful) constructive criticism, he offered me the managers job at another store, which is only fifteen minutes from home, which was well set up by the previous manager and also has a lot of potential for improvement.
I started the monday and i feel a lot happier already! The shop has a relaxed atmosphere, helpful staff and i've just got a general good feeling about it.
