I read John Scalzi's Redshirts yesterday. Literally. One sitting. It's a short book so it's not some grand feat, but I would recommend it to anyone that is a sci-fi fan (especially Star Trek). In short and without giving away too much, it's basically Star Trek from the viewpoint of the normally expendable characters who figure out their lot in life is fucked and go about trying to change it.
