I love Philadelphia, it has a gritty charm and offers everything I want of a city. But love affairs ebb and flow. As of late, I've found myself very tired of this city, tired of traffic, the assholes who cut you off, the fools who walk liesurely in front of your car, the cat calls on South Street, the snobberies of Rhittenhouse, all of it. This morning was particularly depressing. I made the mistake of reading the news. Yesterday two good Samaritans were shot and killed while coming to the aid of a rape victim and a soldier-turned-student was gunned down, robbed and killed for pocket change. Philadelphia is currently experiencing an accelerated murder rate. To date, we've had more murders in 2006, with three months to go, than in all of 1999. .As cold as it sounds, I've become used to (although thankfully not immune) to the stories of gang members kiling gang members and drug deals gone wrong. However, these two stories struck my core. I'm so tired of the utterly senseless violence and complete disregard for human life. I see it everywhere, disregard for others. What a grey day today is.
