So, my trip to Pisa was this week end...
I must say it was quite disappointing... I was expecting a beautiful city and a big tower. Instead, the city is really small, nothing seems to be happening (not a lot of bars, almost empty on a saturday night). Lots of parts of the old town have been reconstructed and at times, in a weird way... For example, a beautful medieval arch transformed in an ugly wall with a modern window in the middle of it.
As for the tower, it is not as big as I expected and it costs 15 Euros to get in it!!! Other than that and the curch next to it, there is not a lot to see.
So we chose to take the car and move to Livorno to see the sea. That was really beautiful! We then had a hot chocolate (always exquisite in Italia) and had a little walk in the city.
Things became weirder when we decided to eat and tried to find a restaurant. We where in the middle of the city, right in the center and... not a single restaurant. I couldn't believe it!!! Our goal was to find a restaurant with a tipical fish soup (the Cacciucco). We finally went back to the port and found somewhere to eat. In our guidebook, the Cacciucco was described as "fish and shellfish soup served with garlic bread". Instead, we got something with only a bit of fish and mostly octopus and cuttle fish. Really, I cannot eat something full of tentacles...
Fortunately, on Sunday we found an extremely beautiful place near from Bologna: Ferrara. Most of the old town is still medieval, the cathedral is beautiful and there is a medival castle to visit in the center. If you ever go to Italy and want to visit a place less full of tourists than Florence or Venice, stop by Ferrarra (and don't forget to try their delicious tortellini with pumpkin).
My love went back to Switzerland this morning, but I'm not too sad cause I only have one week to wait and then I'll be going back home
