Joining the groups is definately the best way to make friends on the site, that way you can get involved with events that are happening in your local area etc. If you go to suicidegirls.com/groups and do a search for your local area you should be able to find one! There is also the "local" section, but I'm not so sure of how that works as I've never used it. Have a search for your interests as well, there are soooo many groups!
