Normally I wouldn't post my opinions about this, and before we get started I want to make something absolutely clear... I'm not saying this practice is wrong, but lately I'm finding my feed populated with more posts about other sites than SG.
I totally understand that some of the models on here don't make that much money from SG and therefore seek out other sites to share their art, thus increasing their earnings. I also understand that in order to gain clients / customers / fans that they need to market those sites, the sets they put out, and the services that are offered.
As I said, normally this isn't something that bothers me in the slightest, however... having logged on today and scrolled down my feed, I was met by 5 individual posts by 5 different models announcing new sets. On other websites. That you have to pay for. Well, as you can imagine it makes you wonder why you bother paying for SG.
Again, please don't think I'm saying that the models on SG shouldn't be using other sites. I have some very good friends on here (and other sites) who do just that, and I'm absolutely fine with it. When they pop up on IG or FB it really doesn't bother me, at all, and I have in the past suggested that friends do just that. But when you're on a website that you already pay a subscription for, being told to go elsewhere and pay for more isn't fun. In fact I've seen models drop off the SG radar because they plugged another site too much, and her followers stopped bothering.
It's like paying £10 to see a movie, and before the credits roll the main star appears and says "If you liked this movie you'll love my next one! It's playing at a different cinema, and will cost an extra £5, but trust me it's worth it. I acted way better and the director is much more talented".
To put it another way... if you pay a subscription to a service, and that service essentially tells you to join another service more than it gives you actual content, why would you continue paying the subscription? You'd either quit altogether, or jump ship. Okay so some members probably have the expendable cash to join multiple sites, but I don't.
Okay so... to be fair I joined SG to support a handful of friends, and stayed because the community is actually pretty cool. My worry is that if this sort of thing continues to get more frequent, the lords and ladies of SG will ban all mentions of other sites. Think of it from their point of view, they're running a business and the "staff" are telling customers to go elsewhere. Again... I want to stress I don't mind anyone using other sites, in fact if it's different content to SG then PLEASE do share!!
If you paint, make music, cosplay, then I'd love to see what else you're up to. Even camgirl sites! I'm not going to check you out, but it's different content to SG. This is purely about those other sites that feature similar content to SG. When a model is plugging her sets on another website more than producing original content on the site you're paying for, makes you wonder why you bother paying for that site. I won't jump ship because I'm not here to follow one or two specific models, but some members might, and that's a little sad.
I mean... how would you feel if another model commented on one of your sets saying "the photographer who shot this set also shot mine, and I think it's better". You'd be livid!
Once more... I don't mind models using other sites, and to some degree making the community aware of them, in fact I support it... but I think plugging those other sites more than actually producing original content is a bit mean.
