If there is one thing I have learned from my recent forays into the world of corporate management, it’s that the most important things to do, from a self improvement point of view, are those that scare you the most. That’s the only way you will grow into the role. That’s often the trick for me, since a lot of what could happen in my new role scares me. Legal questions, customer complaints, issues of discipline when it comes to staff. And while I’m no coward, I’m certainly one prone to moments of anxiety when an issue arises. The same with tasks that have to be completed within a very narrow time frame. It’s quite a feeling when those rest on your shoulders. So I’m taking a fake it till you make it approach and putting a brave face on things even when I don’t feel it. That’s leadership 101. If you don’t have faith in yourself, then no one else will.
