….okay, not as hot as some parts of Europe but still pretty damn hot. The only way I’ve been getting any sleep recently is with a fan and air cooler running all night. And even then I’m only sleeping lightly and with the memory of some very odd dreams. Nothing I can remember in concrete details but I’ve awoken feeling slightly unsettled. This is supposed...

Don’t mean to make that sound like a downer cause that’s not the point here. Still, my birthday is a couple of days away and I guess something about that has gotten me thinking a bit, kinda kicking some stuff around in my head. What with work and, well, mostly work, I’ve not actually been doing much outside of that. That’s something I’m going to...

Happy almost birthday 🎂 hopefully you have a wonderful day and good luck on your journey 🍀
peterdarkdragon:
@richsquared thank you much

While I can’t say I love my job, I can see some perks to it of course. However recently I’m not loving it on a whole other level. I’ve kinda been given a target to achieve and it feels like I’m chasing the impossible. One of our recent investments has been into accepting grocery orders from Deliveroo, Uber and JustEats and it’s just exploded recently....

I didn't even know you had responded to this, without the tag.  I'm glad I came back to read your next post and saw it.  Most stores have around 10 metrics they judge 'success' by, but they are more of an indicator of overall engagement.  Things like staff retention, upsells, customer conversion are all things that tell how management is doing.  Sales, margin, availability, communication... that's all a measure of the company.
peterdarkdragon:
@fredhincanada apologies. I should have tagged you. That’s largely us too. Customer service is where we score low. Not that we are bad at it, we have some real gems, it’s just we aren’t highlighting the option to report great service. Luckily this kinda thing will only be on my radar for a few more weeks

It’s somewhat of a cliched saying that the modern world moves pretty fast but I’ve never really experienced that in a way like this week. One of my game plans for the year is to grab any opportunities that come along, so when I heard that work was offering an Apprenticeship for a Level 5 Operations Manager I jumped at it. I figured I might...

Something of a strange feeling for me, anyone who knows me will tell you. First, there is the thing that I’ve mostly been a cat person up till now. Not entirely by choice. I’ve had two wonderful cats throughout my life and they all chose me, you could say. Kinda wandered in one day and made themselves at home.

Secondly, I’ve had kinda a phobia...

And it seems today is that day. Even if technically I was feeling sick yesterday. Any other day I might have just taken a day off and rested up. But yesterday was the first work team day of the year, where as a group of managers we collectively set the focus for the year so I dosed myself up on painkillers and soldiered on. And...

Sending you positive energy. It took me over a week to shake it.
peterdarkdragon:
That sounds familiar. Thank you both for your kind thoughts.

Not that I’m looking to jinx anything but I had my end of year review at work this week and around the discussion of goals throughout the year, it was mentioned by Mike (Deputy Branch Manager) that if the job was advertised today rather than filled by secondment, both he and the Branch Manager would want it to go to me.

Which changes my whole...

For a lot of situations a golden rule. For matters of the heart, it’s very much the reverse of course. However in a situation that can be dangerous, it’s the only rule to go by. Something I wish a colleague at work had been aware of. I’ll set the scene, a few colleagues spot four customers who were looking like they were going to leave...

Sorry that happened. Loss prevention and security, man, those are wild things to deal with.

First rule, don’t put yourself at risk.

Now, I’ll be honest. AI art still has its limitations, as my experiments this week have proved. To give a little background, I’ve recently signed up to access a AI art generator through DeviantArt and have been putting it through its paces, testing out the limits of its knowledge base and ability to follow a prompt. The results as you might expect have been a...
