well guys, I have some big news for you. I have been inspired to quit my job and move to a third world country. You may think to yourself, what would make her want to do something like that? It's crazy man! Well, that's exactly why I am doing it. Sure I run the risk of getting kidnapped, attacked by guerrillas or contracting a deadly tropical disease. But, I am not afraid of those things for some reason. See, I have this amazing friend whom I have known for about 3 years and over the course of these 3 years I have received letters, postcards and emails form London, Finland, Spain and Mexico, which is where he lives now. He is starting a hostel just outside Mexico City. He says, "come visit whenever you want, you can stay for free". So this is the seed that started this huge tree in my brain. Then, a few days after this idea came to be, I was sitting in the living room, trying not to let the tv rot my brain and I see this book on the table. It's called Avoiding Prison and Other Noble Vacation Goals. So, I decide to check it out, and it ends up sucking me in and I finished the book that night. The author is Wendy Dale and it's her story about her travels about Central America. Even though she slept with a con artist, got Tourists Disease, fell in love with a man in prison and after fighting to get him out and moving with him to Columbia, he dumps her because he is going back to drug trafficking, and running out of money with no job in sight....she had the best time of her life.
So, here's my plan. Februrary 2006- go visit my friend in Mexico City for about a week. See how I like it. Go back home.
Feb. - Sept. 2006- work my ass off, save lot's of money. get visas all in order, get rid of all my crap, get vaccinations, learn spanish, get an airstream trailer, grab my friend Tessa and start driving south until we run out of money. then, i'll get a job teaching english. maybe i will never come back, america sucks.
